I’m Susan – Life-long Pottawatamie County Resident & Candidate

My Life

I grew up in Macedonia where I learned to volunteer by closely watching my parents and observing other community leaders. I am a graduate of Carson-Macedonia High School, Iowa Western Community College, and Bellevue University.

My Family

My husband, Randy, and I were married in 1981. Randy (a fourth-generation Pottawattamie County Resident) is an industrial machine mechanic for Oakland Foods and is a 33-year veteran of the Carson Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department. We are very proud of our two sons and enjoy spending time with our two grandchildren and four grand-dogs.

My Career

For over 40 years, I enjoyed employment in many different capacities with First National Bank of Omaha. The majority of my tenure, with the largest family-owned bank in the Midwest, was in loan operations. Managing and monitoring the details behind compliance regulations, complex loan agreements, and business requirements to support agricultural and technology development in the area.

After accepting an early retirement offer from First National at the end of 2020, I am now a self-employed grant writer.

My Chance to Give

To Susan, service to her community is a close second to her family. Actively engaged with the Carson Business Club and  Dreamland Theatre, Susan is instrumental in fundraising events and maintenance of community garden spaces.

Fun Fact: Susan has been actively involved in fundraising for volunteer fire departments for over 50 years.

My Aspirations

Susan has had the rare opportunity of experiencing the dynamics of Pottawattamie County. Having a casual conversation across the table at a fire department pancake fundraiser in the morning and then into a Council Bluffs board room in the evening she sees the broad issues our county faces and feels she has what it takes to get things done and put the citizens of Pottawattamie County first.

Happiness is not a luxury. It is a necessity. When we are happy, we are in the best possible place to be good to ourselves and those we love.
