As we sit at the gate of Yellowstone and they won’t let us in due to historic flooding, that disappointment is so minuscule compared to the recent losses in Pottawattamie County. I grew up riding my bicycle on the streets of Macedonia, so the recent death of a young boy riding his bike in my hometown really hits home. My thoughts and prayers are with all involved, especially the families of the boy, the driver, and the first responders.
My son and daughter-in-law were married three years ago in a celebration at Prairie Crossing Winery. What a beautiful venue on Pioneer Trail, and an economic treasure in Pottawattamie County. Today it sits at a crossroads waiting for insurance adjusters, heavy equipment, and big decisions by the owners. All along the Trail and into Macedonia and Carson, volunteers have rallied to utilize their resources and manpower to pick up the pieces. I regret I’m not there with boots on the ground to help. I truly want to thank everyone for pitching in.
Our biggest asset in the County is the volunteer community spirit. If you haven’t experienced it or seen it in action, put on your gloves and head to one of the parks in Carson, Macedonia, Treynor, or Olde Town Park.
Again, my thoughts and prayers are with all involved, and my sincere thanks to everyone who has rallied and pitched in to repair the damage.
